THE LAST-DAYS INVESTIGATION · INVESTIGATION 32
Religious Liberty and the Final Crisis
Why does conscience matter so much in prophecy?
Biblical faith requires genuine allegiance and therefore cannot be produced by coercion. Daniel and Revelation repeatedly show faithful people refusing state-enforced worship. Adventist prophetic interpretation expects a future union of religious influence and civil enforcement that pressures conscience. The church must therefore defend religious liberty not only for itself but for people with whom it disagrees.
Reformation principle. If conscience is sacred only when it agrees with us, it is not religious liberty.
