THE REFORMATION · INVESTIGATION 05
The Unfinished Reformation
What if Protestants retained teachings that also need biblical examination?
The Reformation recovered major biblical truths, but reform did not happen all at once. Protestant churches inherited many theological assumptions from medieval and ancient Christianity and then developed traditions of their own. A consistently Protestant method therefore requires Protestants to submit Protestantism to Scripture.
Reformation principle. The courage to question Rome must become the courage to question ourselves.
SCRIPTURE TO EXAMINE
Read the biblical evidence
- 1 Thessalonians 5:21Test all things. Hold fast what is good.
- Psalm 119:105God’s Word is a lamp and light.
- John 8:31–32Continuing in Christ’s word leads to knowledge of truth and freedom.
STRONGEST OBJECTION OR ALTERNATIVE READING
Examine the challenge
Changing beliefs lightly is not wisdom. The biblical model is careful testing, not novelty for novelty’s sake.
YOUR VERDICT
Are you willing to examine a belief even if your family or church has taught it all your life?
- Yes

- Only if the evidence is clear
